FANTOUCHIE: Generative Haptic AI
We have developed a generative Haptic AI system called ‘FANTOUCHIE’ which transforms user-specified object names into tactile sensations via a vibration speaker.
A feature of this system is that it enables users to experience both real and imaginary textures such as ‘unicorn horn’.
In the development process, we implemented a fingernail-shaped device with a piezo sensor and collected tactile vibrations as audio information.
By linking these sound data with onomatopoeia, we have created a unique dataset and tactile generation model.
In December 2024, we presented our work in the poster session at SIGGRAPH Asia, an international conference on interactive technology.
